I am a physician who has spent most of my career as a hospitalist, a doctor who takes up your care while you are in the hospital, usually as your primary physician. A hospitalist manages patients’ daily care and also serves as the center for communication between patients, families, and specialists. Because I have been the person working with patients in the hospital on a day-to-day basis, I know how complicated it can be for patients to begin to process and navigate their way to better health during the stress of a new or difficult diagnosis. The part of medicine I have always loved and found the most gratifying has been helping patients to understand their illness and treatment. The need for patients to take an active role in their care has never been more important than now, but at the same time physicians find they have less time than ever to spend on providing patients with the resources to take on that role.

I felt a deeper calling to begin Illumination Healthcare Advocacy to help eliminate the confusion and uncertainty that comes with illness and replace it with confidence that you and your healthcare team are working towards the goals that are important to you.

I grew up in an Army family and lived in multiple different areas as a child. The experience taught me the importance of service to a greater cause which I feel was the driving factor in my choice of healthcare as a profession. It also taught me to see and respect diverse viewpoints. My adult life has been spent in Texas and Georgia. I returned to Dallas, Texas in 2013 with my wife, Dr. Sasha Webb, and our two teen sons.
